I couldn’t wait for Iced to come out, especially when I found out it was going to feature Dani! So, hurrah for more Karen Marie Moning and the continuation of the story in Dublin AWC – After the Wall Crash!
First things first. Dani is fourteen years old, yes. However, one young character does NOT make this a YA book, and this one has a lot of adult topics – including sex, violence, torture, and death. You’ve been warned.
Now, on to the more fun stuff. Dani is FABULOUS! Admittedly, I’m a huge fan from the MacKayla Lane (i.e. Fever) series, but really, what’s not to like? She’s sassy. She’s stubborn. She’s funny. Need I say more? Yes? Well ok. She’s got her heart in the right place, even though she doesn’t always go around doing things the right way. She’s still learning how to suss up situations, and covers her insecurities with false bravado. And yeah, sometimes the back-talk is cringe-worthy, but remember that Dani is FOURTEEN – and dealing with a world that’s changed radically.
And if that weren’t enough on her plate, she’s one of only two people with a special fae-killing weapon. So Dani does what she does best – righteously killing fae. Too bad Ryodan doesn’t like it when she does it too close to (or even in) Chester’s… So now we have Dani working (reluctantly) with Ryodan, investigating frozen scenes that start appearing around Dublin – one that kills both fae and human alike.
I really enjoyed this first in a new series set in KMM’s Fever world. Dani is one reason. Ryodan is another – hot, sexy, broody, not-quite-good-but-hopefully-not-evil Ryodan. I loved Dancer, and how he and Dani interact. I do not love the Unseelie Prince that Christian is turning into. But hey, a girl can’t have too many protectors in a world that’ll kill you faster than you can blink, can she? Especially when she has a new big bad to save Dublin from!
Of course, KMM leaves us with a cliffhanger. Now I have to bite my nails anxiously while waiting to find out what happens next. Send help, quick!
