Review: 11. The Wife’s Tale by Lori Lansens…

Lori Lansens’ The Wife’s Tale is my second title for the 2013 TBR Challenge. This one’s been sitting around since before February 2010…

the wife's taledrey’s thoughts:

This one starts off kind of sad. Mary Gooch is on the cusp of her 25th wedding anniversary, totally overweight, and paralyzed by inertia. She remembers the days when the doctors whisper the “obese” word to her mother, she remembers when she lost all that weight and was as carefree as could be. But life occurred, and Mary only knows how to deal with all her worries in food.

Then her husband leaves. As in disappears, with a note saying he needs time to think. And Mary doesn’t know what to do.

The Wife’s Tale is a story of a life lived not-so-well, a rude awakening, and what one woman does to regain control. Mary travels far from her comfort zone, and winds up in Los Angeles where a series of events combine to both take her mind off of her husband (or lack thereof) and provide the impetus for making some changes in her life.

By the end of her journey, Mary’s in a much better place – mentally, physically, and emotionally – and I was glad to be able to journey along with her.. I really enjoyed Lori Lansens’ storytelling and characters in The Wife’s Tale. Why did I wait so long to pick this up?
