Review: 71. The Lost by Vicki Pettersson…

I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Vicki Pettersson’s second Celestial Blues book, I loved The Taken – the cover, the story, everything!

the lostdrey’s thoughts:

Griffin Shaw died fifty years ago, but couldn’t let this life go. He’s been serving as a guide for other souls ever since, just doing the job – until he pokes his nose into the death of one of his assignments. Then he helps Kit Craig investigate that death, and gets into trouble for saving her life instead of ushering her soul on as he was supposed to. Not that he could help himself, he likes this sassy, bubbly journalist…

Now, Grif has “official” permission to stay around and find out who killed his wife – in addition to his regular job, that is. Then Grif and Kit get involved in something way more serious than looking into a cold case. A new drug on the streets is killing its victims, horribly. And to add insult to injury, the dead lose their souls, literally, to an evil being who thrives on the Lost.

Grif being Grif, he’s got to figure out how to banish the evil, find the source of the drugs, and try to save some lives. And Kit being Kit, she has to help him. Even if doing so reveals hard truths about Griffin Shaw and (one of) his reason(s) for being in town. How does a girl compete with a fifty-year-dead wife?

Vicki Pettersson’s Celestial Blues series is part crime noir, part paranormal/fantasy, part romance, set in Las Vegas in all of its glittering lights and dark alleyways. The characters are complicated and carry a boatload of baggage. The storyline flows as smoothly as silk. And the plot keeps you guessing to the end. You’ll never believe the revelation we’re given at the end of The Lost, and boy does it make me anxious to get my hands on the next book! Unfortunately, I’m going to have to find a shred of patience – so I can practice having some while I wait… I love the cover, and I loved the stories. Pick this series up!
